Starting a FIFO role can feel overwhelming, especially if it is your first swing. Knowing what to pack can make a huge difference to your comfort, routine and confidence while you are away on site.
Whether you are heading to the Pilbara, Goldfields, a shutdown, construction project or remote mine site, this FIFO packing list covers the essentials you will want in your bag.
What about what NOT to pack?
Avoid overpacking, especially if you are flying with strict baggage limits. Most camps have laundry facilities, food, bedding and basic amenities available.
You usually do not need to bring:
Excessive clothing
Large bedding items
Too many toiletries
Bulky appliances
Valuables you do not need
Restricted items listed by your employer or airline
If it is your first swing, pack light but practical. After your first trip, you will quickly learn what you personally use and what can stay home next time.
A good rule is to keep one FIFO bag partly packed between swings with your regular essentials. This makes travel days less stressful and helps you avoid forgetting important items.
